Charities

Salcombe Crab Festival is a non-profit making event organised by the Rotary Club of Salcombe. So far, we have raised over £20,000 for local charities and good causes.

Crabfest’s principal charity for 2018 is Hope Cove Life Boat. Hope Cove Life Boat is an independent life boat run by volunteers as a registered charity with no funding from the government or any other organisation. The charity’s mission is to ‘protect and save lives in Bigbury Bay and the surrounding coastline’ and the crew are on call 24/7, 365 days a year. The life boat’s entire funding is raised by events or from donations. Money raised at Crabfest 2018 will help fund a new launch trolley for the life boat to make launching and recovery safer.

Previous Crabfests have helped fund:

– a new car for Salcombe Peninsular’s Community First Responders
– 2 x night landing sites for the Devon Air Ambulance
– a defibrillator for Salcombe Fish Quay

A number of other charitable donations have also been made to organisations including: The Young Salcombe Centre, Fishermen’s Mission, Shelter Box and KM United youth football club.
